Salmon Farming feels the squeeze
Media have picked up on “An Investors Guide to Emerging Growth Opportunities in New Zealand food and beverage exports” and the three detailed reports (see release below). The New Zealand Herald article discusses the findings of the detailed salmon report.
“The fundamental issue is that New Zealand as a society has yet to come to a consensus on salmon aquaculture, with proponents arguing for it to become a billion dollar industry, while a wide-ranging opposition of recreational fishermen, inshore fishing companies, holiday home owners and environmental advocates oppose its growth.” says Tim Morris. More information on salmon farming is available from GlobalSalmonInitiative.org.
“Coriolis analyst Tim Morris, who wrote the report, said the New Zealand salmon farming sector had the potential to grow to a $2 to $3 billion industry if enough space was granted.
“We could pay half of our [national] petrol bill with salmon.””
