Provide industry snapshot reports on seven additional Agri-sectors

Following the success of the Arable Crops and Meat reports, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development commissioned Coriolis to provide a suite of snapshot reports across seven additional agri-sectors.

Identify and Develop 15 Business Opportunity Outlines (BOOs)

Approximately 18 months later, Coriolis was engaged to identify and develop fifteen specific business opportunity outlines (BOOs). The BOO concept builds on the recent Industry Snapshot series produced by DPIRD, highlighting high-level, investment-focused information by sector. DIPRD wanted to know, “What are the actual opportunities or investment gaps in the WA market?”; “How do we best support value-added investment?” and “Who do the investments suit?”

What we did

Part 2A: Industry Snapshots

Similar to the earlier project, the team interviewed stakeholders across Western Australia, analysed each sector and identified specific investment opportunities within each sector. The documents were, in essence, mini-pitches for the sector.

Part 2B: Business Opportunity Outlines

To deliver the best results, multiple opportunities from multiple sources entered a screening process. Twenty six ideas were profiled and scored using a multi criteria screening process, a final short list of fifteen opportunities emerged. As part of this project we spoke with investors to understand their investment requirements and to sense check the concepts. Essentially, did the ideas have potential? We also interviewed local firms to identify where additional investment was required to grow the industry. The project analysed the fifteen opportunities across common topics and themes.

Output

Part 2A Industry Snapshots

Each of the seven sectors analyses resulted in:

  1. A summary investment attraction report

  2. A presentation

  3. A back end data room with additional resources

  4. Spreadsheets to keep the data element of the presentation up to date.

Part 2B: Business Opportunity Outlines

Each of the fifteen opportunities is a mini-investment pitch. Each BOO highlights the sector growth metrics, market growth and Western Australia’s competitive advantages. DPRID’s investment attraction team use the BOOs and distributes them to stakeholders and investors across the industry.

In addition to developing the content for the BOOs, Coriolis developed a Stakeholder Engagement Strategy that included profiles of high-potential investors for each BOO. This helps DPIRD target their approaches and provides a framework for the next steps.
